Day #1 Skiing Les Houches

Actually slept great last night but after almost 15 hours on planes I was beat,
We started out the day getting Eric some skis, I brought mine but he was going to rent. After we stopped at a street vendor who had fresh quiche and each had one. The plan today was head up to Brevant which is directly behind our apartment we can ski to the gondola. We aki there only to find that all upper mountain skiing in the Chamonix valley was closed due to high winds and snow, the resorts were hoping for a noon opening, rather than wait we headed by bus to Les Houches the next town over this resort is at a much lower altitude and was open. It sits at the base of Mont Blanc.

The bus ride to Les Houches was a nightmare as everyone else had the same idea and we were packed in like sardines, every turn had the group of people crushing each other in sync. After the 20 min ride we arrive and it's packed, the whole British isle is here, the resort is full of Brits. Eric and I ride the Gondola to the top and begin to ski, there was at least a foot of fresh powder but by the time we arrived it's all skied up, the sun came out and it turned into a beautiful blue bird day.

We ended up skiing as many different runs as possible and stopped for lunch at the top, sausage fries and a beer, then we chilled for a bit in the sun in these really cool Coke seats that swing, we each wanted one!

After lunch we went back at it and wanted to try the other side of the mountain so we did a top to bottom run into town and this time rode the tram up, this was just as bad as the bus, no room to move, just packed and we were hanging by a single cable way up high! And Eric is telling how unsafe the single cable trams are and one in Utah had come off cable, great just what I needed to hear couldn't wait for the ride to end!!! Once at the top we found a run that actually had some fresh powder and skied that until it was time to leave, it had a nice steep pitch, we had a blast.  One thing you see in allot in Europe is the poma lift, you ride up a steel bar with a small seat you put between your legs and ride up alone can make for some long lines.

We did pretty good for the first day, considering all the resorts in Chamonix were closed due to snow and high winds. After another nightmare bus ride back we showered dressed and did some shopping, I needed to get a few things that I didn't bring along, showering with dish soap and drying with a t-shirt was not gonna work for a whole week. After some shopping we went back to room chilled a bit and went for dinner. We found a nice restaurant and each got a 3 course dinner and some wine, I love French wines!! We started out with some excellent French Onion soup, then my main dinner was duck breast cooked in honey with veggies and potatoes, it was most excellent! And for dessert Terimesu and it was delicious.

One thing about Chamonix is the walking, I'm way more likely to get hurt walking around town than skiing, we named it the sidewalk slurpy, it's either slushy with ice underneath or packed down slippery snow!! Chamonix is a beautiful old town, I love European ambiance, old buildings, sausage, cheese shops, not only a handful of junk shops, this is a ski town and people eat, shop and walk around with their gear on, some might even sleep in them LoL. And the bakeries are my favorite, nothing like a starting out every morning with a fresh baguette.  Now were back in the room and readying to call it a night, day #1 in the books. Excuse my typing as I have no wifi and am doing this all on my phone! There will be video as I have been skiing with my Gopro
