Today the plan was to spent the
cooler morning working on our suntans, its been beautiful every day so far and
we have been enjoying the Villa. At the
Villa we have had breakfast delivered to us every morning, its been nice to
have fresh fruit, bread, egg’s, Greek yogurt and water, at home I eat Greek
Yogurt every morning and have been enjoying it even more in Santorini. After
breakfast we head up to our wonderful deck that has an amazing view of the
Caldera, for the first couple days we would lie in our outdoor bed, but last
night a cat must have used the bed, it had obvious foot prints and well it had
been marked! The deck is big enough for us to layout in other places which is
what ended up doing, so for the first half a day we just relaxed and enjoyed
our beautiful surroundings.

Later in the afternoon we need to head back to the red beach to pay our friend
Mihail for the jewelry piece had bought from him, so today we headed to
Akrotiri by bus, its only about a 20 min bus ride. The bus’s are cheap on
Santorini for under 2 Euro you can pretty much anyplace on the Island, and the
main bus stop in Fira was very close to the Villa, after a short walk were on
our way.
I thought driving a car was
tough on the Island, the narrow roads, motorcycles, 4 wheelers, pedestrians and
other car’s well lets say you had to pay full attention, I cant even imagine
driving a bus in the same conditions, these guys are experts!! Soon were at the
entrance to the Red Beach and find our friend in the same place selling his
goods, he is as happy to see us as we are him, soon we are negotiating for other
pieces as well, a couple nice lava stone necklaces for the girls and a
beautiful necklace for Pat, she had been eyeing it from the first time we
stopped there. After working out a price with Mihail we pay, say our goodbyes
and head our separate ways, every I see any of these pieces of jewelry I will
think of the Mihail and how he had trusted us to come back!

Akrotiri is also the home of a Prehistoric Civilization Ruins, its actually
right across the street from the bus station, we decided were here lets go
check it out!
We pay the couple Euro’s
each and head into the building, all of the ruins are now covered by a building
and its an amazing place, many of the homes are quit intact and we find it very
interesting how big the homes looked to be and how well the rocks were cut.
Apparently when the Volcano started to erupt all the people of this community
took boats to get off the island and their town was covered with ash and
lava.
Pat and I walk the full grounds in
an hour as we needed to make the next bus back to Fira and found it to be
fascinating. Soon we are back in Fira and are now hungry rather than run around
looking for a restaurant we go one that is just up the walkway from our Villa,
they seat us at a nice table with a view of the Caldera, I ended up ordering
Moussaka and Pat Lemon Chicken, and it was delicious!! So different and better
than any I had ever had in the states, my Moussaka was layered in my own small
bowl, not sliced as I have had before and very creamy, Pats chicken was
marinated in the Lemon and the meat just fell of the bone. After we went to our
favorite family owned Gelato store, where Pat had become friends with the
owner, Pat asks her to pick out a Gelato for her, she gives an Espresso based
Gelato and I have the Rose Gelato, same as yesterday. I look at the some of the
wine and liquors they also see here and ask the owner to pick our a wine for
us, she gets us a bottle of her favorite white, our first white of the trip,
she also shows us a bottle of Mastic liquor, its made from the sap of an
evergreen that grows on the Island, we wondered what it tasted like and runs
behind the counter a gives a spoon full of mastic gelato we realize that it’s
the same smell when been smelling in the skin conditioners and even during our
hike as that evergreen was all along the trail, we end up purchasing both so
she gave us the Gelatos. We get back to the room and each do a shot of the
mastic liquor, and it was sooo delicious, not overpowering a very nice gentle
taste, then we enjoyed a couple glasses of wine and our day was soon over! Even
when you try to slow down time and relax on vacation it just goes by so fast.
